Zach Top’s “I Never Lie” Goes Four Times Platinum, Bringing a Stack of New Awards

Zach Top has reached a major milestone: “I Never Lie” is now certified four times platinum. The achievement also came with a wave of new certifications for other songs in his catalog, underscoring the fast-growing audience for the country singer’s traditional-leaning sound.

The plaques were presented Tuesday afternoon at Goodtimes, where Top’s label celebrated the success with him. The occasion marked not just a standout moment for one hit, but a broader snapshot of an artist whose career has gathered momentum since he moved to Nashville in 2021.

A four-times-platinum breakthrough

“ I Never Lie” has earned four-times-platinum certification, a sign of sustained listening and sales activity. In the United States, platinum certification generally represents one million units, with eligible album and song consumption calculated using a combination of purchases and streams. A four-times-platinum song has therefore reached the equivalent of four million certified units.

The milestone is especially notable because “I Never Lie” was also Top’s first No. 1 on the country radio chart. Reaching the top spot helped introduce the song to a broad radio audience, while its platinum certifications reflect its continued reach beyond its chart run.

A growing collection of certified songs

The celebration at Goodtimes included several more certifications, showing that listeners are connecting with much of Top’s catalog.

Three songs went platinum:

  • “Bad Luck”
  • “Sounds Like the Radio”
  • “Use Me”

Four others earned gold certifications:

  • “South of Sanity”
  • “There’s the Sun”
  • “Lonely for Long”
  • “Cold Beer & Country Music”

Together, the awards point to more than the success of a single breakout track. Multiple certified songs suggest that listeners are exploring Top’s music across a wider range of releases—a valuable foundation for an artist building a lasting career.

What certifications tell us—and what they don’t

Gold and platinum awards offer a useful measure of a song’s commercial reach. In the United States, gold generally corresponds to 500,000 certified units, while platinum corresponds to one million. Certifications can reflect sales and eligible streams, rather than radio play alone.

That distinction matters. A song can perform well at radio without reaching the same level of streaming or sales, and a heavily streamed song may connect with listeners who never hear it on traditional radio. Top’s accomplishments span both kinds of visibility: “I Never Lie” reached No. 1 on country radio, while the certifications recognize its broader consumption.

From a Nashville move to major recognition

Top moved to Nashville in 2021, placing the current run of recognition within a relatively short period of time. Nashville remains a central hub for country songwriting, recording, touring, and the business behind the genre. Establishing a career there can mean building relationships, refining a sound, and reaching listeners through a competitive mix of radio, streaming, and live performances.

The new plaques do not tell the whole story of that process, but they offer a clear measure of how far his music has traveled. The range of certified titles also gives fans several entry points into his catalog, from the radio success of “I Never Lie” to songs such as “Cold Beer & Country Music” and “Sounds Like the Radio.”

CMA nominations add to the momentum

Top is also up for Male Vocalist and Album of the Year at this year’s Country Music Association Awards. The nominations place him in the running for recognition in two distinct areas: his work as a performer and the achievement of an album.

Awards nominations and recording certifications measure different things. Certifications track qualifying consumption, while CMA recognition reflects industry voting and honors. Taken together, however, they show that Top is gaining visibility both with listeners and within the country music community.

A milestone with room to build

Four-times-platinum status for “I Never Lie” is a major achievement on its own. Add three platinum songs, four gold songs, a first country-radio No. 1, and two CMA nominations, and the Tuesday celebration at Goodtimes becomes a marker of a broader career moment.

For an artist who moved to Nashville in 2021, the new plaques represent significant progress—and a growing catalog that listeners continue to discover.
